about the founder
Sabrina Shah is a first year student at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, where she studies Psychology and Journalism as a Peachtree Scholar, Parr Scholar and member of Honors Carolina. She founded The Advokit as a junior in high school and has since partnered with over 150 child welfare agencies and organizations nationwide, reaching more than 25,000 children in foster care.
In addition to running The AdvoKit, Sabrina serves as a Guardian Ad Litem in Wake County, North Carolina, regularly advocating for foster youth. She has also published research on child welfare topics in the National Association of Counsel for Children’s law journal, The Guardian. As a recipient of recognition from The New York Times and American Voices Medalist from the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, Sabrina hopes to use her writing and creativity to help children involved in the legal system.
